Most modern image editing tools are able to read both. Own formats, both of which are called BMP. There are actually several BMP formats (BitMaP). Vector Magic recommends using the PNG format when storing logos as bitmaps. This format is widely supported by web browsers and image viewers/editors. The best of the lossless image formats is called PNG (Portable Network Graphics). They are more suitable for things like logos. These store an exact pixel-by-pixel representation of the image, but require more space. We do not recommend using JPEG files for rasterized vector art, as the compression artifacts substantially degrade the quality of the image near edges. It has excellent compression characteristics and has the nice feature that the user may specify what level of compression they desire, trading off fidelity for file size. One of the most widely-used image formats. They are also commonly used on the web to save bandwidth. They are best suited to photographs and other images where perfect accuracy is not important. These have smaller file sizes but do not store a perfect copy of the image. Some of the most common are: JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP, and TIFF.īroadly speaking, they fall into two categories: Lossy formats I think machine and system builders were locked into Corel early on and now can't get away from it.There is a large number of different bitmap formats. If I didn't have about 20,000 Corel files on my system, I'd dump the whole program and switch to something else. My 2018 worked perfectly for two years, but over the last two years has become increasingly subject to freezes, lock ups and crashes. I half believe they build logic bombs into the program to compel you to buy the latest versions. I think Corel is trying to keep pace with AI, and is simply making their product harder and harder to use. I just need a simple graphics program without animation and all the "extras" that do me no use. As time has gone on, it has become increasingly difficult to use, gotten more complex, and utterly ignores users like me who use the program for engraving. When I first started, it was a user friendly, relatively simple program to use. Draw is multipaged, does things as Indesign without needing another program. There are some specific features that help too, like the contour tools and power clip. So with the deadline rich environment of a sign shop or apparel shop, productivity counts and Draw wins. But from what I gather those ambidextrous in both find CorelDraw 3x faster for common things. This is mostly as I am more familiar with the shortcuts. I am 20x faster in Corel than Illustrator. Draw has document based color management and is good at it. Lot's of shops geared to producing something physical may prefer Corel, (like sign shops.) The 150 foot canvas size makes large scale easier. I can leave Draw open for weeks until I have to reboot. Doesn't crash here anymore than Illustrator. If its a big sign or something, the tiny canvas size limit in Illustrator means you have to scale. The anchor point tools are five fold, (add point tool, subtract point tool, point tool, direct select, select,) vs Draw's all in one tool. I sometimes think Illustrator users all have stockholm syndrome. Some svg programs then use groups to simulate layers and it all comes into Illustrator or Draw as nested groups.įunny, when I work in Illustrator, it feels like a steamy pile. I don't think the designers nested them but rather it is some thing to do with the fact that there are really no layers in svg, just groups. SVG files seem to sometimes come in very nested. It is useful other times when you might have created such nested groups for construction ease but are now done with them. Mostly it is useful when receiving artwork you have to deconstruct for some reason that has many of these nested groups. Think of it as "Total Ungroup." There might be some script out there that does it in Illustrator, I haven't looked that hard. If it there were sub groups with more nesting it might be more. If it was nested twenty times, you would have to ungroup it twenty times. Ungroup all ungroups nested groups so that are no groups left.Ĭtrl+Shift+G in Illustrator would ungroup one level of such a nested group. This is not what Ungroup All does in CorelDraw.
